Craftoria is a 1.21 sandbox-style modpack with endless possibilities! However, it’s got a lot in it! There’s also a quest book included that provides guidance on many of the mods, helping you understand how they work and fit into your gameplay. If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of mods, don’t worry. This guide will help you get started with one of many possible approaches: focusing first on technology, then diving into magic, and wrapping it all up with some helpful quality-of-life mods to make everything smoother. Keep in mind, this isn’t the only way to play Craftoria—part of the fun is experimenting and finding your own unique path.

A Suggested Approach: Mining, Processing, and Automation
No matter which direction you choose, I suggest prioritizing fast mining, using Silk Touch (to get ores for higher yield processing), and mass-producing resources for fuel and transformation into other items. Sugar cane and amethyst are great items to automate early on.
You can automate crop processing in many ways, using mods like Just Dire Things, AE2, Ars Nouveau, Industrial Foregoing, Modern Industrialization, and more. Budding amethyst can be moved with cardboard boxes from Mekanism, accelerated with AE2 Growth Accelerators or an Ars Nouveau Amethyst Golem familiar, and processed automatically with many different block-breaking methods, such as AE2, Just Dire Things, Ars Nouveau, PneumaticCraft Drones, and more.
Overall, there are so many mods to choose from in Craftoria, and my way isn’t necessarily the best way. How you do it is entirely up to you—but if you’d like, you can follow along with my YouTube series to see how I did it. Throughout this guide, I’ll reference videos where I cover various mods and setups in detail, so feel free to check those out for a clearer picture of my approach.
Check out the Quest Book
Craftoria comes with one of the most well-developed and designed FTB quest books I’ve ever seen in any modpack. It has a ton of quests in it to guide you through getting started, and the important things you need to know, plus progression through some of the bigger mods in the pack…without giving it all away. The rewards are also reasonable, not bypassing important progression with free stuff!
If you’re wondering what the point of Craftoria is, it’s a sandbox pack. Which means you can just do what you want. But if you’re looking for a goal, the Completionist section of the quest book is a great place to look. If you can finish all ten of these chapters, that’s a feat!
Tech First: Powering Up with Mekanism
To kick things off, I started with Mekanism, a fantastic tech mod that provides powerful tools for ore processing and power generation. In my video, Let’s Try the Craftoria Mod Pack – Mekanism JetPack Speed Run, I began exploring the modpack and quickly moved into setting up Mekanism to get ahead.
Next, I dove deeper with Mekanism Ore Multiplication Tutorial plus Mining Gadgets, where I set up early automation for ore processing and power generation. Mekanism is a powerful mod for ore processing. Right from the start, you can begin multiplying your ores to get more from every mining trip. Early goals should include setting up Heat Generators to provide power and the Enrichment Chamber to start ore doubling. Once you’re comfortable, you can progress to ore tripling or beyond!
If Mekanism isn’t your thing, Modern Industrialization is another great mod for those who enjoy tech. This mod provides an interesting twist on tech progression and allows for advanced automation. Modern Industrialization is also a great way to get early ore multiplication as well as fast mining and Silk Touch with the mining drill. It’s an option worth exploring after you’ve gotten started with Mekanism.
PneumaticCraft is another very technical mod that has a very in depth progression to automate with air pressure!
ComputerCraft, CC:Tweaked is also a fun way to program turtles to do your bidding whether that’s mining, harvesting, and anything else you can program with the build in computer language.
Storage Solutions: Keeping Things Organized
Once you start producing more resources, storage quickly becomes an issue. Applied Energistics 2 (AE2) is one of the best storage mods available, providing a digital storage solution that can be expanded with various addons like MEGA Cells for increased storage capacity. I covered the basics of AE2 ME Storage in my video, Applied Energistics 2 ME Storage Quick Start AE2 Tutorial, where I set up my first ME Storage System to manage items efficiently and prevent overflow.
I also tackled early-game automation using Just Dire Things in my video, EASY Unlimited Resource Automation with Just Dire Things and AE2. This video covers automating resources like sugar cane and cobblestone for better progression, which can be extremely helpful before AE2 is fully set up.
But first, an introduction to Just Dire Things, which has so much useful stuff in it!
Integrated Dynamics offers a very powerful early-game storage solution that can ultimately be upgraded with wireless terminals that work from any dimension. It’s flexible and modular, perfect for adapting to your needs as you progress.
One item you are definitely going to want to get is a Cardboard box, this allows you to move most blocks around, like chests, but you can also move budding certus quartz blocks and amethyst blocks without damaging them. We started on Industrial Foregoing to get the cardboard box, which has it’s recipe changed in this pack to require some early game Industrial Foregoing resources. That’s good because we definitely want to get into that mod sooner for mob farm optimizations!
For bulk storage, Functional Storage and Sophisticated Storage are also fantastic options. In my video, Adding Functional Storage to Solve AE2 Disk Overload, I show how these storage mods can be integrated seamlessly with AE2 to ensure everything stays organized.
Magic Mods: Theurgy and Ars Nouveau
Theurgy is a powerful alchemy mod that lets you transform simple resources into rare items. It’s great for multiplying resources, giving you another way to maximize your materials. Early on, focus on using Amethyst to craft valuable items like Diamonds or even Nether Stars. Theurgy also allows you to fully automate its processes, making it an incredibly efficient mod for scaling your production. I’ve also made a 5-part mini-series on Theurgy that you can check out here to see the full progression, from getting started to full automation of resource transformation. Here’s the first video in that Playlist
Ars Nouveau is a must-try for anyone interested in spellcasting. I’m not personally big on magic spells in Minecraft, but I do love automation, and Ars Nouveau has so much of that as well as spell casting. I also love the modular mechanics of building spells to do interesting things—it’s a very fun mod! This mod allows you to craft spells, automate tasks using magical constructs, and dive into the world of magic with ease. For a more detailed walkthrough, check out my video, Ars Nouveau Getting Started Guide in Craftoria, where I cover crafting spells, setting up automation, and using magical constructs.
Additionally, Ars Elemental and Ars Ocultas are add-ons for Ars Nouveau that introduce new spells, mechanics, and magical tools, adding more depth to your magical experience. Ars Nouveau is also a fantastic way to automate crop growth and resource collection using familiars.
Exploration Mods: Discover New Places
Oh The Biomes We’ve Gone adds a variety of exciting new biomes to explore, making every journey in Craftoria unique. There’s also The Bumblezone, a dimension themed around bees that adds a whimsical and resource-rich area to discover.
Additionally, popular structure mods like Towns and Towers and When Dungeons Arise add many new structures to the world, enhancing the exploration experience with interesting places to loot and conquer.
While exploring, the Relics and Artifacts mods introduce many unique and useful items to equip your player with. You can find these items in dungeons, structures, and even trial chambers, making exploration even more rewarding in Minecraft 1.21.
Waystones can help you set up fast travel points between different locations. Once you start exploring, being able to teleport back home or to your major builds will save a lot of time and make navigation much more convenient.
Quality of Life (QoL) Mods: Making Life Easier
In my series, I also highlighted some of the Quality of Life (QoL) mods that help streamline gameplay and make day-to-day tasks much more convenient. These mods are designed to cut down on repetitive actions and help keep your focus on the fun aspects of Craftoria.
For example,Crafting Tweaks and Right Click Harvest are small but impactful mods that simplify everyday tasks, like crafting and harvesting crops. They help cut down on tedious activities, allowing you to spend more time exploring or building.
Sophisticated Backpacks are another QoL feature that I recommend. These provide customizable additional inventory space, and I’ve found them invaluable when mining or exploring new areas.
Cooking for Blockheads makes food preparation much more convenient by integrating all your food-related blocks and simplifying recipe management. It’s a great way to stay well-fed without needing to manually craft every meal.
Late Game: Becoming OP
As you progress towards the late game in Craftoria, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to become incredibly powerful. Mods like Modern Industrialization, PneumaticCraft, and Mekanism all offer late-game tools and suits that grant creative flight, invincibility, and other advanced features. Modern Industrialization has powerful late-game drills, while PneumaticCraft offers advanced armor and drones for automation, and Mekanism provides the ultimate MekaSuit, which makes you virtually unstoppable. These mods allow you to push your capabilities to the limit and become a force to be reckoned with in your world.
Mob Farming: Managing Resources with Automation
Mob farming can be incredibly useful for resource gathering in Craftoria. Industrial Foregoing offers many options for managing mob farms, from automatic mob grinding to fluid extraction. Apothic Spawners can be used to enhance and customize spawner behavior, while Hostile Neural Networks offer more advanced options for training AI to manage mobs effectively. PneumaticCraft also has spawner agitators that allow for customized mob spawning, making it a useful tool for managing mob farms in creative ways. I’ll be exploring these mods in more detail in future videos, so stay tuned!
This guide offers just one of many possible approaches to Craftoria. You could take a tech-first route like I did, or you could jump straight into magic with Ars Nouveau or Theurgy. Maybe you want to focus on exploration and see all the new places that Oh The Biomes We’ve Gone and The Bumblezone have to offer. However you decide to start, remember that Craftoria is all about choice and creativity.
There are numerous mods that fit into these categories, and some that don’t—but that’s what makes Craftoria so unique. Feel free to experiment, mix and match, and ultimately create a world that works best for you.
Watch the Videos
So far, there are 14 videos on Craftoria, many of which are mentioned above. Here’s the entire playlist for your binging pleasure. I’m not calling it a series as I’m trying to keep each video somewhat stand-alone teaching a mod, or a part of a mod. But it’s also pretty bingeable. I try to keep the videos right to the point! Enjoy.
